Today the six day long trail race “TransRockies Run” will kick off. Sebastian Schmidt, a hosting specialist from Cinnober’s Stockholm office, will participate in the challenge as a team with his father and Cinnober as a proud sponsor and supporter. The Schmidts' endeavor can be followed on a daily basis via www.cinnober.com
Set in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado in the USA, Sebastian and his father Fredrik Schmidt will run grueling high-altitude stages ranging from 14 to 24 miles (22-38 km) a day. By the end of the week they will have passed a total of 115 miles (184 km) in total. During the race, team Schmidt can expect to face harsh summerish weather ahead. In the Colorado Rockies in mid-August the weather can vary from hot sun to deep snow.
“There is no doubt that it will be hard work. The greatest obstacles will probably be recovery, the altitude and psychological aspects”, comments Sebastian Schmidt. “I have ran the distance and I have trained at altitude – but never for six consecutive days. What will recovery be like sleeping in a tent every night? How do you function on day three with ten kilometers to go at altitude, with sores, exhaustion and 30-degree heat and relentless sunshine?”
Teamwork is of the utmost importance while partaking such an event as the TransRockies. During the race team Schmidt must stick together. If one of them arrives more than two minutes earlier than the other at any of the control points, the team will be given a 60-minute time penalty. Competition is fierce, as the winners share a $20,000 pot.
“I admire the challenge Sebastian and Fredrik is taking on. Naturally we support challenges like this as we consider it related to our daily work here a Cinnober. The same kind of passion and engagement is required for the extreme conditions we encounter daily in financial marketplaces. Whether they demand speed, endurance or handling the unexpected – no downtime is acceptable,” says Javier Tordable, CEO of Cinnober.
Throughout the journey you can stay up-to-date with team Schmidt’s progress via Sebastian’s Twitter account, @Cinnober_Sebbe, or on www.cinnober.com/cinnober-goes-transrockies.
